Community Health Centers across the country use a unique—and extremely effective—model of governance. The majority (51%) of our board members must be patients of the clinic. In this way, board members bring to the table their first-hand experience receiving their care at the Community Health Center and have influence over making the center a place that truly serves the unique needs of our community. Board members who are not patients also must be representative of the community but no more than 10 percent of them can work in the healthcare industry. This ensures that local hospitals and others in the field do not have too much influence over how care is delivered at the Loudoun Community Health Center.
