New Service at Loudoun Community Health Center Helps Sick Children

Loudoun Community Health Center is offering parents a rare, yet much-needed service when their children become suddenly ill. Parents can bring their children in to see a doctor without having to make an appointment Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.–10 a.m.

The Loudoun Community Health Center is a charitable nonprofit that provides medical, dental and mental health services to anyone in need, regardless of age or ability to pay, whether they have insurance or not. Services are made affordable with deeply discounted fees offered to those who qualify based on household income and family size. Unlike most private practices, LCHC readily accepts Medicaid and FAMIS insurance programs, and it can often be extremely difficult for parents to find a doctor who will take their children using these plans.

Parents who register their children to become established patients of the Loudoun Community Health Center may take advantage of the walk-in service anytime it's needed without having to call ahead for an appointment. Children will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis each morning.

"We know how hard it can be for parents who are awaken in the middle of the night by a sick child suffering with a high fever," said Dr. Lauren Cianciaruso, chief medical officer of the Loudoun Community Health Center. "We established this new service so that parents can rest assured knowing that they can bring their children to us first thing in the morning without having to wait for an appointment."

Kids Sick Care hours are for children with acute illnesses only, such as sore throat, fever, ear aches, rashes, pink eye, stomach aches, flu-like symptoms, asthma flare-ups, urinary tract infections and other childhood conditions that often worry parents. The special walk-in service is not for adults, general physical exams and check-ups, vaccinations, or chronic medical problems, and appointments for these situations is required.
